This comprehensive, intermediate to advanced level course focuses on the management of the elbow. It is designed to enhance the understanding of the complexity of the elbow joint, and the assessment and management of various conditions affecting this joint.

The purpose of this course is to enhance theoretical and practical knowledge to be better able to problem solve and design treatment programs for a variety of upper extremity conditions.

 Course Objectives:

Upon completion of course, therapist will understand:

  • the anatomy of the elbow
  • motion of the elbow joint
  • trauma and its effect on stiffness of the elbow joint
  • management of fractures and dislocations of the elbow
  • management of nerve compression around the elbow

Video clips, animation and fresh cadaver dissection films presented throughout the presentation demonstrate clinical reasoning and simplify understanding of this complex topic.  

  • Course features an in-depth presentation of: 
  • anatomy of the elbow joint and forearm
  • elbow and forearm mechanics
  • distal humeral fractures
  • olecranon and coronoid fractures
  • radial head fractures
  • dislocations of the elbow
  • postero-lateral rotary instability
  • compression neuropathies of the elbow
  • management of the stiff elbow

CE Credits

14 contact hours in upper extremity and hand therapy education

Accepted by many professional credentialing organizations and state professional regulatory boards. Check with your state board/credentialing agency to verify. Certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants upon completion of the course and may be used for CEU verification of credits. CE Credits vary by state. Please check with your state board/certifying agency to confirm conversion of contact hours to CE. See links below.

Physical Therapy Board of California: The Physical Therapy Board of California recognizes Rehab Education, LLC as an approval agency to approve providers offering continuing competency courses for CA licensed PTs and PTAs. This course is approved for 14 contact hours.

Shrikant J. Chinchalkar OTR, CHT

Shrikant J. ChinchalkarShrikant J. Chinchalkar OTR, CHT is a hand therapist at the Hand & Upper Limb Centre, St. Joseph's Health Centre in London, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from Nagpur University, India in 1971.

He has over 35 years of clinical experience in treating upper extremity conditions. Shrikant has conducted instructional courses on "Biomechanics of the Hand" at the American Society for the Surgery of the Hand, the American Association of Hand Surgery, the American Society of Hand Therapists, Australian Hand Therapy Association, South African Society of Hand Therapists and Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists' annual meetings.

He has presented papers and has conducted instructional courses on "Upper Extremity Rehabilitation" in Canada, USA, Mexico, Australia, Singapore, Belgium, Italy, France, Greece, Finland, UK, South Africa, India, Spain, Turkey and Venezuela.  Shrikant was awarded the 2003 "Paul Brand Award of Excellence in Hand Therapy" by the American Society of Hand Therapists. He received the "Best Clinical Paper" and "Best Poster Presentation" awards at the annual meeting of ASHT and an "Award of Excellence" by the Sisters of St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario. He received an "Outstanding Alumnae" award by the All India Occupational Therapists Association in 2008. He has published papers and abstracts in numerous journals related to Upper Extremity Surgery and Therapy.
